Jaco van der Walt
Jaco van der Walt’s rugby career is highlighted by several memorable milestones. He made his professional debut and played in the Currie Cup final in 2014, went on to win the Currie Cup with the Lions in 2015, and earned his Scotland debut in 2020.
He does not follow any specific pre-game rituals, often enjoying a meal with his wife before matches. Throughout his career, Jaco has been influenced by various individuals in different aspects of rugby, although he does not single out one particular mentor.
Known for his sense of humour, he considers Marco Janse van Vuren the funniest player in the squad. Away from the field, Jaco enjoys spending time with family and friends and finds relaxation on the farm.
Jaco’s advice to young aspiring rugby players is simple: enjoy every moment on the field and never give up, as a rugby career is short but rewarding. While he has not played at particularly unusual venues, he treasures every experience on the pitch.
If he could host a braai with rugby legends, Jaco would invite Dan Carter, Johnny Wilkinson, and Jonu Lomu. And yes, he can light a fire without a blitz — using just a pipe and a gas bottle! ??
