Hencus van Wyk was born 2 February 1992 in Nigel, Gauteng. His regular position is prop.
Van Wyk played at 2008 Under–16 Grant Khomo Week and the Under–18 Craven Week for the Limpopo Blue Bulls before joining their parent club, the Blue Bulls. He played for them in the 2011 Under-19 Provincial Championship and 2012 Under-21 Provincial Championship competitions and was a regular starter throughout both competitions.
Van Wyk made his senior debut for the Blue Bulls in the 2011 Vodacom Cup on 8 April 2011 against the Border Bulldogs in East London, Eastern Cape. He didn't feature for the seniors again that season or in 2012. He was included in the 2013 Vodacom Cup squad, where he made three starts before being included on the Bulls' team for their 2013 Super Rugby season match against the Waratahs on 27 April 2013 at Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria, coming on as a 53rd-minute substitute.
In 2013, Van Wyk signed a contract extension to keep him at the Blue Bulls until 2015. He joined the Japanese Top Kyushu League side Munakata Sanix Blues before the 2015–2016 season. He played in 27 matches for them.
In the next few seasons, Van Wyk's first-class rugby career saw him shuttle between the Northern Hemisphere - Japan and the USA - and the Southern Hemisphere - the three South African provinces Blue Bulls, Golden Lions and finally, in 2020, the Toyota Cheetahs.
Hencus is part of 2023 Currie Cup winner's squad.
