A proud Cheetahs supporter since childhood, Arno vd Merwe realised a lifelong dream when he made his senior debut for the Toyota Cheetahs in 2024. Standing tall at 1.97m, Arno combines physicality, athleticism, and a strong work ethic that make him a dynamic force in both the lock and loose forward positions.

Before every match, Arno grounds himself with a personal prayer — a simple routine that reflects his faith and focus. Inspired by Pieter-Steph du Toit for his humility and exceptional work rate, Arno also looks up to rugby greats Bakkies Botha and Richie McCaw.

Although an injury kept him from joining the Junior Springboks’ final training camp before the World Cup, Arno chose to see it as part of a bigger plan — believing that “God had other plans” for him.

Off the field, Arno enjoys hunting and fishing, spending time outdoors, and recharging away from the game. His favourite rugby venue is Ellis Park, and his personal motto captures his competitive spirit:

“Outwork everyone, be open to learn, and enjoy every moment you have.”
