My most memorable moment on the rugby field was when my brother and I got our first caps for the Grey College first team together — I was in matric, and he was in grade 11. Sharing that milestone with him made it really special.
I don’t follow a specific pre-game ritual, but I like to arrive early and have everything ready, as I don’t like being rushed or told what to do at the last minute before a match.
Several people have influenced my rugby journey. Mr. Yurie Geldenhuys guided me as a youngster, my high school coach Sechaba shaped my skills, and more recently, Coach Tiaan has been a major influence in helping me develop further.
The funniest player in our squad has to be Hencus van Wyk.
One challenging moment in my career was in grade 10, when I played for the u/16 D team after recovering from an injury. It was also during COVID, which made staying focused and motivated difficult. I overcame it by keeping my mind clear, working hard on my own, and doing extra training to be ready for when everything returned to normal.
Away from rugby, I love visiting Kruger National Park, fly fishing, and hunting — activities that help me unwind and recharge.
My advice to young aspiring rugby players is to believe in yourself, work hard, stay humble, and do everything for Him who gave you the talent.
One of the most unique places I’ve played rugby was during my u/11 year, in a tournament held on a field with a breathtaking sea view.
If I could invite three rugby legends to a braai, I’d choose Pieter-Steph du Toit, Dan Carter, and David Pocock.
And yes, I can light a fire without blitz.
