Springbok fullback Willie le Roux will be rested from the Toyota Cheetahs' two warm-up matches in Port Elizabeth this week, the Volksblad website reports.
Le Roux fell on his shoulder during the Toyota Cheetahs' warm-up game against Shimlas last week. He is not badly injured but won't be risked for games against NMMU (Tuesday) and the EP Kings (Saturday).
However, two other big guns - flyhalf Johan Goosen and scrumhalf Shaun Venter - will return to action against the Kings.
Coach Naka Drotské said Venter - who underwent a shoulder operation last year - will get about 20 minutes against his old team-mates, while Goosen will play 40 minutes.
Drotské said Le Roux will be rested as a precautionary measure with Hennie Daniller doing duty at fullback. The latter also recently returned to action following a wrist injury.
The Toyota Cheetahs on Saturday named a 36-man training squad for their week-long camp in Jeffreys Bay.
The squad was named after they thrashed Shimlas 66-19 at Free State University on Friday, while their second-choice side lost 21-19 to Griquas' Vodacom Cup side.
On February 1 the Cheetahs will play against the Pumas in Parys, before they open their 2014 Super Rugby campaign against the Lions in Bloemfontein on Saturday, February 15.
