Former FS Captain, Jakes Swart passed away.

The former Free State Captain, Jakes Swart, passed away after suffering from cancer.

Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Jan Cornelius (Jakes) Swart was born in Johannesburg on 26 December 1943 and passed away on 20 November 2019.  


Between 1972 and 1974 he played in 20 matches for the Free State, in which he captained the side in 8.  He scored three tries for the Free State.


He played in his first senior provincial rugby match in 1967 when he represented the former South West – Africa (2).

Between 1967 and 1971 he represented Northern Transvaal in seven matches before he came to the Free State in 1972.  Swart played for Defence Force and was the captain of the former SA Forces (Army and Police) who regularly played against provincial and international teams.
