Aidon Davis to join Exeter Chiefs in July

Free State Rugby confirmed that Aidon Davis will be leaving the Toyota Cheetahs after the Currie Cup in June this year to join Exeter Chiefs in England.

“It has been a pleasure working with him, and we certainly can’t doubt the dedication, sacrifices and hard work he has given to the Toyota Cheetahs since he joined the side in 2018. Aidon is a man of great integrity and we are happy for him to get an opportunity like this after all that he has been through,” said Coach Hawies Fourie.

“Free State Rugby would like to thank Aidon for representing the Toyota Cheetahs with respect and honour and we wish him all the best for the next chapter in his career.”

“It will be a bittersweet moment for me and my family leaving Bloemfontein and the Toyota Cheetahs. This was home for four years with memories we will cherish with the ups and downs.  We made lifelong friends and met incredible people along the way.  I can’t thank the people of Bloemfontein, every coach, player and Cheetah staff member enough for welcoming me and my family, and being there for us not only on the field but off the field as well,” Davis said.

“I still have a job to do and that is to win the Currie Cup with this amazing group of players and coaches, and my whole focus will be to do whatever I can to contribute to us winning the cup and ending this part of my journey on a high.  Thank you once again Cheetah family.”

The stalwart made his debut for the Toyota Cheetahs against Western Province on 25 August 2018 and represented the team in 59 matches to date, which includes 11 PRO14- and 30- Currie Cup games.

Aidon Davis was carried from the field last night during the Carling Currie Cup match between the Toyota Cheetahs and the Sharks in Durban.  He suffered a mild concussion and is expected to be ready for the next match on 15 April against Western Province in Cape Town.
