The second-row, Walt Steenkamp, is one of the new boys on the block at the Toyota Cheetahs. Steenkamp has made Bloemfontein his new home following a stellar career in Potchefstroom where he represented both the Leopards and the Northwest University Pukke. In 2018 he was named as the Varsity Cup’s Player of the Season, after successfully helping the Pukke reach the final.
At 2.02m tall Steenkamp is a tower in the lineout and his ability to call the players makes him a welcome addition to the side. Highly sought after in South Africa and Europe, Steenkamp, is sure to become a crowd favourite in the Toyota Stadium.
Steenkamp took sometime to settle into the Cheetahs squad and he also missed the first trip overseas in the 2018/19 season due to an injury.
Since making his debut he has been one of the leading second-rowers in the competition.
