YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED - PART 4

This is simply a reminder that our supporters are welcome to use this tool of transparency to ask the questions that are on your mind.

You are welcome to submit any questions you may have, to us at media@fsrugby.co.za

The Free State Cheetahs management often receive questions from supporters and other interested parties.  The questions vary from why the Toyota Cheetahs were ousted from the expanded PRO16 series in Europe, to the team’s performance, players, coaches, staff, commercial matters and what the future holds for the franchise.

It is not always possible to provide individual responses to all the questions. We have therefore compiled a set of the most frequently asked questions with answers to each.

  • When will the Cheetahs play again?
  • SA Rugby and SuperSport have just released the match fixtures. Eight local unions will play four matches each, two home and two away games from 26 February to 28 March. SuperSport will have live coverage of all the matches. Click here for the complete fixtures list.

  • What does the future look like for the Toyota Free State Cheetahs?

The Cheetahs’ double World Cup winner, Frans Steyn, said in a TV interview he believes the Cheetahs could be the country’s top team again in about five years’ time. We believe he speaks for the team and the coaching staff. This is also the long-term goal for the Cheetahs management team: to once again make the Free State Cheetahs a team to warm the hearts of their supporters, not only with match wins but dazzling running rugby.

Coach Hawies Fourie has signed up a number of very able and promising players and is now building the team with new talent and deep experience.

  • When will we know about the Cheetahs participating in a new international tournament? Was it not supposed to be 15 February?

No, our previous estimate and hope were end February, beginning of March. As keen and impatient as we all are, the reality is that a new international series requires several role players and decisions. These include the rugby teams and controlling bodies of the participating European countries, sponsors, broadcasters and more. We sometimes underestimate the disruption caused by COVID-19 in usual business and timeframes. We hope to receive news soon.

  • We are looking forward to the commemorative Cheetahs book. When will it be available, how much will it cost and in which languages will it be published?

Orders can be placed at around R400 per copy. The book is expected by mid-2021. An Afrikaans edition is in production. Anyone interested in an English version of the book should inform us when placing their orders. If the demand is there, it would justify the production costs. Please e-mail  media@fsrugby.co.za to place your name on the list.
