Tian Meyer to lead the Toyota Free State Cheetahs in 2019 Currie Cup

Tian Meyer will be leading the Toyota Free State Cheetahs in the 2019 Currie Cup competition.

The experienced scrumhalf was named as the joint captain of the Toyota Cheetahs for the 2018/19 Guinness PRO14 following the long-term injury to Oupa Mohoje, and proved himself as a worthy leader.

Free State Rugby believes in Tian and wish him well on the task ahead.

The Toyota Cheetahs are especially excited about this year’s Currie Cup because of the fact that it doesn’t overlap with Guinness PRO14.  This means that the Toyota Free State Cheetahs will be able to put their strongest possible side on the field and be a strong contender for the Cup.

For the Toyota Free State Cheetahs, the Currie Cup kicks off on Friday, 19 July against the Blue Bulls in Pretoria.  On Saturday, 27 July they will be eager to face the SuperSport Challenge Champions, the Griquas in a neighbouring rivalry in Toyota Stadium.  A week later, the Toyota Free State Cheetahs will be taking on the Golden Lions on home turf in Bloemfontein followed by the Sharks in Durban.  The team will be travelling to Nelspruit where they will stand against the Pumas.  On Saturday, 24 August the Toyota Free State Cheetahs will come up against Western Province in Toyota Stadium before seeing who qualifies for the Currie Cup semi-finals on the 31st of August and final on the 7th of September.
