The South African A captain and flank, Oupa Mohoje has shown his commitment towards the Toyota Cheetahs by extending his contract for another two years. 

“I’m very excited about continuing my rugby career with the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.  I’ve literally been here all my life and I’m really happy to stay.”   

“The Free State is like a family to me.  They’ve raised me since my u.18 rugby days and I’ve learned all my rugby here.” 

Teboho Stephen Mohoje played for the Free State Cheetahs u.18 Academy (2007), u.18 (2008) and for the u.21’s (2010-2011).

He made his first class debut for the Griffons (2012) in a Currie Cup First Division game against Border Bulldogs.

On his return to Bloemfontein he made 16 appearances for the Free State Vodacom- and Currie Cup teams. He played for the UFS Shimlas in the Varsity Cup competitions from 2011 to 2013.  He captained the side in 2013 and was voted the ‘Player That Rocks’ for the competition.

He was included in the Toyota Cheetahs squad for the 2014 Super Rugby campaign, making his debut as a replacement for Jean Cook against the Chiefs at Free State Stadium in April.

In May 2014, Mohoje was one of eight uncapped players called up to a Springbok training camp.  He made his test debut against Scotland in Port Elizabeth, taking to the field as a replacement for Duane Vermeulen.

In 2015 he made a Springbok appearance against the World XV in Cape Town as substitute for Eben Etzebeth and in the Rugby Championship test against Australia in Brisbane.  In 2016 he was selected as captain of the South African A side who played against the England Saxons in two matches.

Oupa has a career total of 23 Super Rugby matches in which he all represented the Toyota Cheetahs.

“It was a tough season for us in the Super Rugby this year but we have high hopes of doing well in the Currie Cup.  Last year we reached the semi-finals and we (players and coaches)  have set high standards for ourselves this year.  I think we’re going to reach the final and take the trophy.”    

“I’ve committed myself to the Toyota Cheetahs and I believe in the system.  I believe in what the coaches and management are trying to do and in the changes that they are making.  I definitely can’t wait to start winning cups for the Free State again.”
