The 30-year-old George Whitehead is a flyhalf who was born and bred in Bloemfontein. Whitehead, who was also an accomplished cricketer played 1st team rugby and cricket for his Alma Mater, Grey College, and also played at age group provincial level in both sports.
Whitehead represented the University of the Free State Shimlas in the Varsity Cup, and during the same period also played for the Free State Cheetahs.
Whitehead has also made a turn at the Eastern Province and Southern Kings and Griffons before settling at the Griquas. During the 2018 season he went on loan to the Stormers where he played in three Super Rugby matches. In 2016 he also represented the Toyota Cheetahs in the Super Rugby.
In 2019 he captained he Griquas to their first SuperSport Rugby Challenge title, and he has also played in all three of the competitions’ finals.
