The Toyota Cheetahs will not be releasing their star players in order to represent one of the so-called big four in the planned Rainbow Cup or PRO16.
There have been calls for players such as Frans Steyn, Ruan Pienaar, Junior Pokomela and the likes of to be included in the squads of the team such as the Bulls, Lions, Sharks and Stormers.
The Bulls, in particular, are interested in the services of the two-time World Cup winner, Steyn.
TCheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, said if they are going to be playing as well, they can’t loan their players to other teams.
“We are not going to do it if we play in another competition.
“If we play in a competition in April and May we won't release any of our players.
“If we don't have anything to do, or play in during those months, then we will think about it.”
Fourie added that he cannot divulge too much, but there are options that SA Rugby is looking into.
“The Rainbow Cup was announced, but there is still a little thing that says it might not happen because of Covid or whatever.
“Covid has changed the world in 12 months, so it might still not happen. Then we will play in the Franchise Cup.
“If it happens then we will play in another competition which SA Rugby is currently working on.
“It will be finalised in the next seven to ten days.”
As a squad, the Toyota Cheetahs are on a break until after Easter.
