The Toyota Free State Cheetahs will open their 2018 Currie Cup campaign by playing against the 4 strongest teams in the 1st four weeks of the competition.
The Currie Cup Premier division kicks off on Friday 17 August with the Toyota Free State Cheetahs playing the Blue Bulls in their 1st home game of the season, in Bloemfontein at Toyota Stadium. They will then go on to play Western Provence at their home ground in Cape Town on Saturday 25 August, followed by another home game in Bloemfontein against the Sharks on Saturday 1 September, and the Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday the 8th of September.
“This year the players know what to expect and I have full confidence that they will adapt much sooner.”
“There are various challenges that comes with the PRO14, both on and off the field. You play against several different teams including their respective international players.”
“We will utilise over 50 players in both competitions.
The full squad will be announced at the season launch on the 14th of August.”
New players in the squad are:
Rudy Paige (scrumhalf, Bulls), Adriaan Carelse (fullback, Boland), Tian Schoeman (flyhalf, Bordeaux), Louis Fouche (flyhalf, Kubota Spears), Ruben de Haas (scrumhalf, USA), Dries Swanepoel (centre, Bulls), Benhard Janse van Rensburg (utility back, Sharks), Walt Steenkamp (lock, Leopards), JP du Preez (lock, Lions), Aidon Davis (loose forward, Toulon), Louis Conradie (lock, Boland).
